Fiber Arts

Fiber Arts at Peacehaven brings people of all abilities together through shared creativity and connection. From the start, the program offers a calm, welcoming space where everyone can participate meaningfully. Some make with their hands. Others contribute through presence and conversation. In every case, all belong.

Fiber Arts creates connection through process, not performance. As a result, participants:
• Build confidence at their own pace
• Practice focus, sequencing, and fine motor skills
• Strengthen relationships through side-by-side making
• Ultimately, experience pride in creating something tangible

There is no single way to participate in Fiber Arts. Instead, the program adapts to each person.

For example, some people:
• Engage deeply in hands-on work
• Contribute to specific steps like carding or shaping
• Offer encouragement or quiet companionship

In all cases, every form of participation is valued.

Fiber Arts supports Peacehaven’s RISE & SHINE programs in meaningful ways. Specifically, it:

• Provides skill-building in a low-pressure environment
• Additionally, offers routine that builds confidence and independence
• At the same time, reinforces collaboration through creative work

For some participants, Fiber Arts is a stepping stone.
For others, it is a destination.
Either way, both are important.

Projects vary by season and may include:
• Felted soaps and small fiber goods
• Carding and working with wool
• Dryer balls and other simple fiber projects

However, the focus is always on process over product.
In other words, people matter more than output.

Fiber Arts at Peacehaven exists thanks to the generous spirit of Ann Wren, who has guided this program since its earliest days. Ann’s patience, creativity, and belief in every person’s ability to contribute have shaped Fiber Arts into the welcoming, inclusive space it is today.
