What is the Peacehaven VISTA Partnership?
The Peacehaven VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) Partnership, led by Peacehaven Farm, has identified, recruited and represented 15 VISTA members placed at nonprofit agencies in our geographically focused area. This will result in more than 26,000 work hours within our community to support the fight against poverty. Peacehaven was recently selected to serve as the Central North Carolina VISTA intermediary.
What is VISTA?
VISTA was founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 as a national service program designed specifically to fight poverty in America. In 1993, VISTA was incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs. AmeriCorps, a core program of the federal agency Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 800,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
What will the VISTA members do?
Peacehaven is pleased to be such an integral part of this process, helping to support the fight against poverty in the Central North Carolina region. Each VISTA member that has been selected has made a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. The VISTA members will be providing support to these agencies for grant writing, fund raising, marketing, and other organizational and administrative tasks.
Who are the sponsors for this cycle?
