Balancing People Needs

Social sustainability is focused on caring for the people that comprise both our farm community and global community and the development of programs that promote social interaction and cultural enrichment.  It emphasizes protecting the vulnerable, respecting social diversity and providing for the basic need of all people for happiness, safety, freedom and dignity.

Examples of social sustainability practices:

  • We commit to a rhythm of life for our residents that integrates health and wellness into their diets, work and daily activities.
  • We invest in the growth of all people—through relationship building and work training, educational and agricultural programming.
  • We value our friends and neighbors.  Our weekly workdays and potluck meals provide opportunities to deepen these relationships.
